AAFP has identified resources to help members with the American Board of Family Medicine's Maintenance of Certification Program for Family Physicians (MC-FP).
MC-FP Requirements
In addition to maintaining a valid and unrestricted medical license, earning 300 CME credits, and taking the cognitive exam, physicians must complete the following:

Part I: Professionalism
Part II: Self-Assessment & Lifelong Learning
Part III: Cognitive Expertise
Part IV: Performance in Practice
Seven-Year Cycle
• 6 Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs)
• 1 Performance in Practice Module (PPM)
Ten-Year Cycle
• 2 SAMs every 3 years (6 total)
• 1 PPM every 3 years (3 total)
• 6 Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs)
• 1 Performance in Practice Module (PPM)
Ten-Year Cycle
• 2 SAMs every 3 years (6 total)
• 1 PPM every 3 years (3 total)
AAFP Resources
Our resources are designed to help you stay on top of your game:
- Meet the requirement for 300 CME credits with AAFP CME. Report your CME (Members Only) to AAFP and we will nofity ABFM that you've met this requirement.
- Join a SAM Group and work with peers on a self-assessment module.
- Prepare for the cognitive exam with a Board Review Course or a self-study program such as:
- Fulfill the performance in practice requirement with METRIC.
