Hours:

Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Travel:

Approximately 32-36 days travel out-of-town per year

Summary of Responsibilities:

The CME Assistant Division Director (ADD) provides leadership within and external to the AAFP by influencing major ongoing advances in the strategic direction of continuing medical education and continuing professional development – of Academy members, other family physicians, healthcare providers, faculty, advisors and learners. The ADD represents the Academy through interactions with the AMA Council on Medical Education, the Society for Academic CME, the Accreditation council on Continuing Medical Education, and other organizations, to advance the objectives of the division, the Academy, and the profession.

The ADD also facilitates the continuous review and update of the specialty’s CME curriculum by providing insights into the medical knowledge, clinical skills and overall practice needs of Family Physicians, through collaboration with AAFP’s Commission on Continuing Professional Development, staff, and others, as well as the ABFM and other organizations. The ADD provides general leadership of the AAFP CME Strategy Group and CME Division, particularly during absence of the Director.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have earned a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) and will have completed or participated in an MBA, MPH, MHA, MMM, M.Ed. or similar advanced program. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of family medicine and CME, gained through a minimum of six years applicable experience including: design and delivery of CME programs and products, guidance for physicians’ continuing professional development activities, and strategic innovation to enhance continuing medical education. A demonstrated knowledge of ACCME Essentials and Standards, Commercial Support Standards, and Maintenance of Certification for Family Physicians is also essential. Additional qualifications include successful management experience, proven communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility to oversee multiple responsibilities and priorities, and ability to guide and influence others in a manner that equips them to work productively in a complex, dynamic environment.
